In celebration of Juneteenth, ADAMA invites you to Player’s Ball: A Double Feature—a night of iconic films, community, and cultural pride. Inspired by our Double Feature exhibition, this event brings the Blaxploitation era to the big screen in true retro fashion. This Juneteenth fundraiser will feature back-to-back screenings of two classic 1970s Blaxploitation films, Dolemite & Coffy!

Player’s Ball: A Double Feature is ADAMA’s official Juneteenth event and a fundraiser supporting Black arts and culture. Proceeds go toward our mission of celebrating and preserving the legacy of the African Diaspora through exhibitions, education, and community programming.

  • Come dressed to impress—1970s style! We’re encouraging guests to embrace the era with fabulous ‘Player’s Ball’ fashion: think bell-bottoms, platforms, afros, furs, gold chains, wide collars, and glam. Go all out for a chance to win our Best Dressed Playa & Playette Contest during intermission!

    Not into costumes? No problem. Come as you are and enjoy the vibe—style is a state of mind, and everyone is welcome. Whether you're rocking full retro or modern chic, the energy is what counts.

  • The films are rated PG-13, so please keep this in mind when deciding to bring younger guests. While Player’s Ball: A Double Feature is a celebration open to the community, some film content may include mature themes typical of 1970s Blaxploitation cinema. We recommend parental discretion for children under 13. The event atmosphere will be festive, fun, and welcoming for all ages who can engage with the films respectfully.
